What is zero waste?

           image-vegilog-

Zero Waste is a local solution to some of our most pressing environmental, economic and social challenges.

Zero Waste is a set of principles focused on waste prevention that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. The goal is for no trash to be sent to landfills, incinerators or the ocean. Currently, only 9% of plastic is actually recycled. In a zero waste system, material will be reused until the optimum level of consumption.  - Wikipedia-

Why zero waste matters

PROTECTING NATURAL RESOURCES

We are 7+ billion people living on one planet. Our supplies of fresh water, fossil fuels, metals and other resources are limited. Zero Waste helps us live within our planet’s means by using resources more efficiently, so we have the raw materials to sustain future generations of humans and other species.

CLIMATE RESILIENCE

The way we produce, consume and dispose of our products and our food accounts for 42% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. Zero Waste planning is one of the fastest, easiest, most cost-effective ways a community can reduce their climate impact.

GREEN JOBS, STRONG LOCAL ECONOMIES

Zero Waste creates ten times more jobs per ton than landfills and incinerators—quality jobs for low-skilled and mid-level workers. It strengthens the local economy by keeping dollars and materials circulating through the region, instead of burying them in a landfill.

HEALTHY PEOPLE, HEALTHY PLANET

Every single one of us—even polar bears—carries toxic chemicals in our bodies, toxins emitted from dirty manufacturing plants and polluting landfills and incinerators. Zero Waste redesigns products and manufacturing processes to be as non-toxic as possible so that all populations, human and otherwise, are healthier.

Zero waste can start with just simple things

Let's think about yesterday, woke up in the morning, little bit late for work did not have a time to cook, stop by at the convenient store and get breakfast covered with plastic bag and then get a coffee with a plastic cup. Even just look at the morning we clearly see how much we use a disposable product. So what we can do?      -eco cycle solution-

1.     Carry your own tumbler anywhere you go.

According to the Korea ministry of environment, in 2020, plastic waste increased 18.9% from 2019 which is 923tons. As we can see, by just using own cup make so much reduce of plastic waste. Also you can get discount from café for using tumbler.

2.     Use handkerchief rather than use paper towel

Some people think paper towel is recyclable but it’s not. Decreasing paper towel 20% a year, we can save more than 6.236tons of carbon dioxide.

3.     Use a bamboo tooth brush rather than a regular tooth brush

Plastic needs 500years to naturally decompose therefore it’s better it is much better to use eco-friendly products.

Our responsibility on environment is not cheap but small changes can be the start of change, it starts today.
